Michael Tolan: Selections From A Man, A Woman And A Cello Video

In tribute to the life of our 1947 alum, Michael Tolan, we present selections from his October 7, 2009 performance of "A Man, a Woman and a Cello: An Evening of Poetry and Music" in the Newnan Lobby of Wayne State University's Hilberry Theatre.

In this video, Tolan speaks about his background in Detroit and at Wayne State, about his acting career in New York and performs dramatic readings of poetry accompanied by Nadine DeLeury, principal cellist of the Michigan Opera Theatre Orchestra, with music by Lee Norris. Tolan passed away January 31, 2011:

"Actor and native Detroiter Michael Tolan dies at 85"
Michael Tolan, an actor and 1947 Wayne State University graduate who became a recurring presence on television in the 1960s and '70s died Monday in Hudson, N.Y. He was 85. Tolan, also a film and Broadway performer and co-founder of New York's American Place Theater, starred on the 1964 CBS prime-time medical drama The Doctors and the Nurses and on the NBC drama The Senator (1970-71). He appeared on other shows, including The Mary Tyler Moore Show.
